2-ethylhexanoic acid is a raw material for alkyd resins, solvents, plasticizers (especially triethylene glycol di-2-ethylhexanoate, used in the adhesive films between layers of safety glass), peroxides, polymerization catalysts, alkali metal salts used in synthesis of antibiotics, and heavy metal salts (octanoates) used as paint driers.
