n-Heptanoic Acid
Esters of n-heptanoic acid with trimethylolpropane or pentaerythritol are used as base resins for synthetic aircraft engine lubricants, high-quality non-yellowing baking enamels, refrigeration fluids and transformer fluids. The ester of n-heptanoic acid with triethylene glycol is used as a specialty vinyl plasticizer, and the ester of n-heptanoic acid with propylene glycol is used as a emollient in cosmetics. Metal salts of n-heptanoic acid are used as grease additives. The triethanolamine salt is a useful additive for water based synthetic cooling fluids.
